Character Developement in Incarceron

     In the book Incarceron by Catherine Fisher, the character Finn develops from a hard ruthless person to a still hard person but now he is intent on finding out were he came from with the help of the Maestra, who is a girl he kidnapped during an ambush on her people. Finn tries to help keep her alive since she knows something about a tattoo on his wrist. On the tattoo is an eagle and a crystal and the Maestra's people found a crystal with the same eagle inside of it that can do something extraordinary. everybody believes that Finn is a cell born, or someone that was made by Incarceron.
Finn has these brief episodes were he feels dizzy and experiences memories from what he believes to be his past. he is a more caring person now because he is putting himself on the line to try and save her life and find out more about who he was and were he came from.

    
The other main character in the book, Claudia, starts out as a pretty flat character who has to act formal but doesn't like to. through dialogue with her tutor and her own thoughts and actions it is revealed that she, like Finn, is also a very curios character who wants to now what happened to one of the princes she was originally arranged to marry. he mysteriously died and it is said that he fell from a horse but Claudia believes he was murdered. To look into this, Claudia sneaks into her fathers study with is actually a control room for Incarceron. She has gone from a flat, rebellious character to a character who doesn't trust her own father and believes he is plotting something to gain more power in the world they live in.

The Setting Thus Far

 So far the setting of the book Incarceron is split. there are two separate story lines going on. One of them is Finn's story, which takes place within Incarceron itself. Incarceron is a dark, damp, unforgiving place. there are multiple wings of Incarceron,which are like enormous hallways, each one ruled by a wing lord. Finn lives in a wing with a group of thieves and they have yet to leave the wing. Even though Incarceron is a prison, there is a lacking of cells since there is no point in having them since you cannot escape the prison. the setting influences Finn because he lives in a dog eat dog world, it hardens him and makes him a ruthless person. it hasn't completely changed him because he still has pity on people.Warden of Incarceron. her surroundings are clean and airy because she lives on the outside. there is an era law forcing people to act like they are from the 1700's and only use technology from that era. She lives in a manor house on a large estate. She is always trying to get into her father's study, which is always kept locked. the setting influences her because everything is so neat and proper so she  wants to break out of this tidy, protected bubble and experience life out of era. she wants to live in the now. Both of these settings contribute greatly to the developement of the characters, especially Finn since Incarceron is alive and pretty much raised him before releasing him to the rest of the prison.

What I am Reading Now

     I have just started a new book. The book I am currently reading is Incarceron by Catherine Fisher. I chose this book because: it is a New York Times Bestseller, Incarceron sounds like incarcerate, which means the book has something to do with prison which is always cool, and the little teaser on the back of the book was intriguing because it said that the prison is alive. I always thought the whole "It's Alive!" concept was interesting, yet eerie at the same time. It kind of gives you the chills if you think about it to much. You start thinking about the idea of Machines becoming self aware like "The Terminator" or "Hal"(both of which are great movies). I am excited to start reading this book and even though I have only read the first couple of pages I already enjoy it.
    
     So far, there is a guy named Finn. Finn wakes up after he is thrown to the ground by a couple of thugs. He is covered in heavy chains and he cant get up. He looks around and finds something that frightens him. he is trained to the tracks that large trucks roll on. The ground starts to rumble and fin sees lights in the distance. The trucks are coming. He tries to get loose but the chains are to heavy. He doesn't shout, until they are a couple of meters away, this way they can hear him. with the he throws himself up and shouts, but they don't stop. Then Finn remembers his flashlight.He shines it at he truck but drops it, just out of his reach. He braces himself to get run over, but then he hears the brakes squeak. The tires were almost on him. a group of people come out and get chain cutters to free him. then they notice something. the bolt holding Finn to the tracks is not bolted in. Then people come out of the floor and gas comes from the ceiling. The attackers start to fire on the truck and attack the people. This is were I left off so I will make a new post once i read more.

Morgan Freeman since he was in the Shawshank Redemption which is about prison and also because I think he is Awesome.

Practice Blog

 

     In the book I read over the summer, One Shot at Forever, by Chris Ballard, The character Steve Shartzer, a baseball player for Macon, takes everything on with a serious attitude. Throughout the story, the coach of the Macon team is enforcing a laid back, its just a game attitude. In a way, Shartzer is an antagonist because he won't stop taking the game to serious. In the end when they lose the last game of the tournament every one else is happy that they at least made it to the state finals but not Shartzer. He feels like he let everyone in his hometown down as he said on page 227. "Look at all these people lined up, Jack and Jeane and Lynn-these are the people I let down." When they are all on the bus in the parade home. He does not get off the bus when they make stops at other small towns to celebrate. His dad goes onto the bus to eventually coax him out of the bus and Shartzer eventually blames himself less and feels a little better about it. Even today he still blames himself and that was 40 years ago.
